Policymakers must rely on science to set agricultural policies, not misinformation spread through social media

Despite farmers being among the most trusted stakeholders in Canada's food system, widespread misinformation on social media threatens sound agricultural policy, with only 9% of Canadians understanding modern farming, according to the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity; experts at the University of Calgary and the University of Toronto urge policymakers to prioritize scientific evidence and direct engagement with farmers to bridge the urban-rural divide and ensure effective, trusted regulations.
